My "Barefoot Fusion Massage" starts with a foundation of the deeply flowing movements that embody Chavutti Thirumal. Traditionally chavutti has a specific progression through moments, my barefoot fusion massage is more improvisational. I use styles and techniques that I've learned from mentors that come from all over the world (the flowing movements of Hawaiian Lomi-Lomi, The slow deliberate pressure of Japanese/American Ashiatsu, Stretches from Thailand). After 20 years as a massage therapist I have cherry-picked some of the best techniques and applied them to my practice. The Barefoot Fusion Massage is truly one of a kind.
I am one of a very small handful of traditionally trained Chavutti Thirumal practitioners in the United States. Chavutti Thirumal is simply translated to "Rope Massage With Foot Pressure". It is an ancient form of massage that comes from Kerala, South India. The Massage Therapist holds onto a rope with one hand and stands on one foot, using the other foot to glide warm oils into the body. This ancient massage technique was developed for maintaining suppleness in the body and for treating pain and swelling caused by combat. It is however, equally suitable as a treatment for those not involved in regular or strenuous physical exercise who wish to maintain their own fitness and well being. Using the feet gives the client the feeling that tension is being ironed out of them. Receiving this style of massage is not only relaxing and rejuvenating, it is traditionally believed to have the same benefits as attending a yoga class. Here is a video of my instructor Hellen Noakes giving a traditional "chav" - as you can see in India, Hellen's client is very lightly draped and laying on the ground - I on the other hand use a cloud soft heated memory foam mat and both sheets and a blanket (it is Oregon after all and not equatorial India) I use LOTS of natural oil (a blend of coconut, avocado, olive, and grape-seed) and have a range of aromatherapy options to help customize every massage session for your goals of that day.
No two massages are ever the same. My dynamic approach to massage means I can meet your body exactly where it's at today.
Steam towel treatments are included (default is the face and neck, but I can also wrap your feet or do a back treatment. Just let me know before we start).
We'll discuss your comfort level for clothing and and go over boundaries.
I make every effort to be a body positive therapist. We will acknowledge where your body is at this moment and work to bring you a sense of restful revitalization.
